So when he was diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2019, he couldn't help but worry.
After months of chemotherapy and other drug treatments, along with a surgical procedure last March, he's cancer free (and now enrolled in a study due to a cancer mutation that puts him at risk for others).
Roy has returned to working 12-hour shifts as an EMS deputy chief, and as a part-time firefighter on the other days.
The dad of three was recently featured for his brave journey in an article by Fox Chase Cancer Center.
"I am thankful for Fox Chase for many reasons," he said, "but especially that they helped me get back to doing what I love."
